Why is wellbeing in the workplace important?

Mental health issues affect 792 million people worldwide[1] with 1 in 6 people (14.7%) experiencing mental health problems in the workplace[2].

Evidence suggests that 12.7% of all sickness absence days in the UK can be attributed to mental health conditions.[3]

Better mental health support in the workplace can save UK businesses up to £8 billion per year.[4]

Mental health can take many forms, including depression, stress and anxiety; but the impact of these issues can have a far wider reach, affecting employee performance, staff turnover, presenteeism, absenteeism and ultimately the reputation of a business.

69% of UK line managers say that supporting employee wellbeing is a core skill, but only 13% have received mental health training. [5]

Employers, leaders and managers play a vital role in observing changes in employees’ behaviour, but they need the skills to help them recognise signs and symptoms and identify when support or help is needed.

"Excellent course, and brilliantly presented, with lots of useful discussion from different perspectives and additional tools to use in the workplace to improve wellbeing and mental health management".

"The wellbeing4performance wellbeing team were brilliant, approachable and helpful throughout the day, I felt really relaxed at the end and really enjoyed the team building workshops and developing  strategies to selfcare, I would highly recommend"!

The health & wellbeing day made me feel very valued as a staff member of the organisation and a real benefit of working for the establishment.

I thought it was a brilliant day, I thoroughly enjoyed each of the carousel workshops. It has really motivated me to take steps to improve my own and my families health. All the health professionals were very knowledgeable, professional and approachable. The wellness and lifestyle workshop was brilliant, it has inspired me!
